The Middle Aged Adventures of Sprocket Man- Chapter 2
The Bicycle Repair Man Repair Shop
Stephen locked his door and bounded down the stairs of his apartment building. Right outside the building stood Miss Wriggens, an old lady who stood outside of Stephen’s building every single day. Every morning she said the same thing.
“The end is nigh!” she said in her shrill, crackly voice.
Stephen slipped a dollar into Miss Wriggens hand, “Have a good day!” he said with a smile.
“Bless you, son,” she said with a wrinkled smile.
Stephen climbed onto his bicycle and rode to work. Stephen owned the Bicycle Repair Man repair shop. He had owned the store for years. It wasn’t the most thriving of stores, but it made enough to make ends meet. The store also brought in enough for him to hire his daughter, Stephanie.
“You’re late!” Stephanie said with a smile, without looking up from her job.
“My store, my rules,” he said smiling back at her as he hung his coat.
Stephen loved working with his daughter, in some ways she was his best friend.
“Did you finish the Red Fuji?” he asked, “the owner said he would be here in the morning.”
“Yep, all set! Not sure how he managed to bend the fork though!”
“I know, right!” he said with a chuckle, “the owner didn’t tell me how it happened, but I imagine he was distracted while he was riding and hit a-“
“Aw! Almost record time. I was wondering when Sprocket Man would show up,” Stephanie interrupted.
“Ha ha!” Stephen sarcastically chuckled.
Stephen looked up at the bulletin board. On it was a years old poster of his alter ego, Sprocket Man. On the poster, Sprocket Man was wearing his signature red and blue costume with a sprocket on the forehead portion of his helmet and on his chest. The message on the poster gave advice about riding in the bicycle lane to make room for pedestrians on the sidewalk.
“Oh, hey, I’m going to be out for lunch today. John and I are going to meet at Shuster’s.”
“Shuster’s! Ah man, you’d better bring me back some challah!” Stephanie replied.
“Will do!” Stephen said with a grin.
