Beep Beep Beep Beep
A weary hand hit the top of an old alarm clock. Stephen Schwin slowly opened his eyes. It was Tuesday.
Stephen ached more than usual, it was more than likely because of that stunt he had pulled off the day before rescuing a lade from a purse snatcher. He smiled. if being a little sore was the price of getting to be a hero for a few brief moment, it was well worth it.
His socked feet hit the floor. His apartment was still the dilapidated dwelling it had been yesterday but today it felt more bright and charming.
Stephen threw some breakfast together and sat in his recliner to turn on the morning news. The morning news jingle began to play and suddenly- it hit him…
In the midst of the excitement yesterday, he had not even thought twice about whose purse he was rescuing. But now he realized that he had helped the news anchor from the morning news. He realized this because she was on the screen, right in front of him.
“My name is Sue Smith and you are watching the Metroville morning news! Yesterday the city was saved once again bu Captain Courageous, this time from an alien invasion by the Thanagenarions-“
Stephen thought to himself that he didn’t remember an alien invasion yesterday. He thought he would have seen something like that. Maybe he had been so excited and wrapped up in his own adventure that he didn’t see what was directly in front of him. Stephanie could attest that he had done that many times before. Oh well…
“In other news,” Sue Smith continued, now with a gleam in her eye, “There is a new hero in town! Yesterday I was rescued by the newest hero in town- Sprocket Man! I was cornered by a purse snatcher with a gun, but Sprocket Man swooped in with his bicycle to save the day! I could not get a picture, but here is a composite sketch of what he looked like. Sprocket Man, if you are watching this, thank you for saving me! I hope our paths cross again, and I hope we see more of your super hero career!”
Stephen did not know if a pit or butterflies were beginning to develop in his stomach. But whatever it was, he knew one thing was certain… change was coming.
