The Middle Aged Adventures of Sprocket Man! Chapter 5
Sprocket Man saves the day!
As Stephen rode his bike back to the repair shop, he thought about the conversation he had just had with John. Memories from his old superhero days began to fill his mind. His stint as a superhero was not very long, but he missed it. As a young man he had been passionate about making a difference in the world, to leave his mark in a profound way. Where did that go? Had life been so cruel and hard that he had forgotten about his dreams? Was there any way to recapture that excitement and drive that he had once had?
For a brief moment, something appeared in the corner of his eye, if he had been in a car he would have been going to fast to see it. Stephen abruptly stopped and turned around to see what he had missed.
He peered into an alley and saw a man and a woman talking to each other, but upon further examination the woman looked terrified and the man not only looked very hostile but he was pointing a gun at the woman.
“I don’t want to hurt you, lady! But you gotta give me your purse now!”
The woman was shaking, she pleaded with the man, "Please sir! I barely have anything. It’s even a struggle to feed my kids as home. If you take all of my money I don’t know how I am going to take care of them!”
“That's your problem, not mine! Now, fork over the purse!”
Stephen knew he had to do something. He thought quick. In between him and the “soon to be" crime was a pallet titled up a little bit by a milk crate.
“If I use that as a ramp…” he thought to himself, but before he could finish that thought he was already pedaling toward them as fast as he could.
The plan went perfectly, he rode up his makeshift ramp and began to fly through the air.
“Stop right there!” Stephen yelled at the man.
Before the man was able to react to what he was seeing-
CRASSHHH!
Stephen and his bike landed on top of the man.
The man laid crumpled on the ground. The bike was broken but Stephen was fine and the woman with the purse was safe.
Stephen said to the woman, "Call 911 and get out of here as quickly as you can!”
The woman was in shock, she didn't know what to say. All she could do was blurt out the questions, "Who-who are you?”
Stephen replied, "I Ste- No, I am Sprocketman, at your service ma’am!”
